With half-term and the Easter holidays fast approaching, here’s a handy guide of fun things to do with the kids in Beaumaris. You’ll find plenty of activities in the town itself and many other star attractions just a short drive away. A stay with us will offer you excellent value and spare money in your pocket to treat the family to some of the best attractions and activities that the island has to offer. We should know, we’ve tried and tested most of them with our young family! This short guide only scratches the surface, so get in touch to book your stay and we can share some more hidden gems.
Explore the Waterfront & Outdoors
Beaumaris Pier
A stroll along the pier is a must! The sea breeze, views over the Menai Strait and spotting boats make it a simple but fun walk with kids. Bring a bucket and line for one of the most popular activities in town — crabbing off the pier, which little ones absolutely love. Buckets, line and bait are available to purchase at the Pier Kiosk as well as other shops in town.
Beaumaris Sea Front & Paddling Pool
Spend time on the beach for sandcastle building and stone skimming, or paddle in the outdoor paddling pool by the lifeboat station — great for younger children to splash around safely. Just watch the seagulls with your fish and chips!
Walk Part of the Anglesey Coastal Path
Even a short stroll along the coast offers sea views, fresh air and a chance to spot local wildlife — from seabirds to tide-pool creatures at low tide.
Explore Beaumaris Lifeboat Station
Volunteers are often on hand to show you around the lifeboat and the lifeboat station and teach little ones all about safety at sea. Treat them to a unique gift at the adjoining shop afterwards.
Trip to Penmon Lighthouse
Take a short drive to Penmon Priory and explore the church and ancient dovecot. From here you can park and walk to Trwyn Du lighthouse. Explore the rock pools, look for beautiful pebbles to paint and enjoy a snack at the Pilot House café.
History Comes Alive
Beaumaris Castle — Medieval Adventure
A highlight for families! This UNESCO-worthy castle (built by Edward I) is packed with towers, battlements, moats and winding staircases — perfect for imaginative play and exploration. Keep an eye on Cadw’s social media pages for scheduled medieval madness events throughout the season.
Beaumaris Gaol and Court & Beaumaris Courthouse Museum — Step Back in Time
For curious minds, the old jail and courthouse tell fascinating stories about Victorian justice — a bit spooky but fun for older kids who enjoy history with a twist.
Sea Trips & Wildlife
Seacoast Safaris - Puffin Island Boat Trips & Anglesey Boat Trips — Puffin & Seal Cruises
Take a boat trip from the pier towards Puffin Island, where you can often see seabirds, seals and, if you’re lucky, dolphins. A lovely way to combine sea life with sightseeing.
Starida Puffin Island Cruises and Sea Fishing Trips — Another Great Boat Option
Offers similar cruises with additional options like sea fishing trips — ideal for families who want a bit more adventure on the water.
Thrill-seaking on the water
Seawake boat trips on high-speed RIBs offer an alterative way to tour Puffin island or the bridges of the Menai Strait from Beaumaris Pier. As well as being fun and informative, the high speed sections of the tours will satisfy little thrill-seekers.
Nearby Attractions Worth the Short Drive
While slightly beyond Beaumaris itself, these spots make great add-ons (especially on mixed-weather days):
Pili Palas Nature World — Tropical Indoor Fun
A short drive to Menai Bridge brings you a butterfly haven, exotic birds, reptiles and a soft-play area — perfect for rainy days or curious little explorers.
Anglesey Sea Zoo and Marine Resource Centre — Underwater Worlds
See seals, fish and other marine life — a fun way to learn about local aquatic creatures and conservation.
Greenwood Family Park
For theme park enthusiasts, this eco-friendly woodland park will offer a whole day of fun, only a 30 minute drive away. From the dragon rollercoaster to the waterslides, be prepared for some serious fun in a beautiful setting. Perfect for the whole family.
National Trust - Plas Newydd House and Gardens — Gardens & Views
