No lift? No cooked breakfast? Where do I park? Can I have an extra bed?
These are some of the questions we’re asked most often by guests staying at our independent, family-run hotel — and we completely understand why!
When you’re booking somewhere to stay, it’s important to know exactly what to expect. Nobody likes surprises when they’re away from home, so we’ve put together this guide to some of the questions we hear most frequently.
We’re a small, independent hotel with plenty of character, and while we may not have every facility you’ll find in a large modern hotel, we’re always happy to help wherever we can. Here are a few things worth knowing before you arrive.
Does the hotel have parking?
We don’t have private parking at the hotel, but there are several parking options just a short walk away. We know that finding somewhere to park in an unfamiliar town can be one of the less exciting parts of arriving for a break, so we’ve put together a whole separate guide to help.
Our parking guide explains the different options available and should make arriving by car a little easier. And if you’re still unsure, just ask us! We’re happy to point you in the right direction.

Does the hotel have a lift?
No, we don’t have a lift.
All of our bedrooms are accessed via stairs, so this is something we think it’s particularly important for guests to know before booking. We’re an independent family-run hotel in an older building, and unfortunately installing a lift simply isn’t something our building allows us to do. But there’s no need to worry about carrying heavy suitcases upstairs. Our team are always happy to help with your luggage. Just let us know when you arrive. If you would prefer a room on a lower floor, please tell us before your stay. We’ll always do our best to allocate a first-floor room where we can. We can’t guarantee a particular room or floor, especially when we’re busy, but knowing in advance gives us the best opportunity to help.
Staying with us and concerned about the stairs?
Please get in touch before your arrival. We’d much rather know in advance so we can see what we can do to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
Is breakfast included?
Yes! Our continental breakfast is included in the price of your stay.
However, if by breakfast you mean a full English/Welsh with bacon, eggs, sausages and all the trimmings, then there’s something you should know: We don’t serve a cooked breakfast.
Instead, we offer a continental breakfast — and there are some fantastic cafés and restaurants in town if you’re looking for a cooked breakfast. One of the advantages of staying at a small independent hotel is that we know the local area, so ask us for our recommendations. We’re more than happy to suggest somewhere for a great cooked breakfast.
Want a cooked breakfast?
Just let us know before your stay and we’ll happily recommend some good local options.
Can I book a room with an extra bed?
Unfortunately, our bedrooms aren’t large enough to accommodate additional beds.
We know that this can be an important consideration when travelling as a family, but adding another full-size bed simply isn’t practical or comfortable in our rooms.
What about a travel cot?
Travel cots can be accommodated in some of our rooms.
If you’re travelling with a baby and need a cot, please tell us when you make your booking or as soon as possible afterwards. We can then check which rooms are suitable and, where possible, make sure you’re allocated an appropriate room. The earlier you let us know, the more we can do to help.
Why is there more information in my booking confirmation?
This is perhaps the most important thing we’d like guests to know.
If you’ve booked through an online travel agent such as Booking.com, you may notice that the information on their website doesn’t include every detail about staying with us. That’s because online travel agents limit the amount of information individual hotels can include in their property descriptions. We therefore send our own booking confirmation email shortly after you make your reservation. This email contains additional information that we think is important for you to know before arriving.
Please read your booking confirmation!
We put a lot of effort into making sure guests know what to expect before they arrive. Things like parking, stairs, breakfast and room facilities can make a big difference to whether a hotel is right for you. We’d much rather you find out about these things before your stay, when there’s plenty of time to ask questions and make arrangements. So when our confirmation email arrives, please give it a quick read. It’s not just another booking email to ignore!
It’s our way of making sure you have all the information you need before you arrive.
We're not a chain hotel — and that's part of our charm
There are lots of wonderful things about staying at an independent, family-run hotel.
You’ll often get a more personal welcome, local recommendations from people who actually live and work here, and someone who genuinely cares about making your stay enjoyable. And if you have a question that we haven’t answered here? Just ask! There’s a real person on the other end of the phone or email, and we’re always happy to help.
We look forward to welcoming you!
